Some random small mods

Here are just a few more mods that are smaller that I have done with the bike. The tank pad from orbital, 1 bar end mirror to be legal in WI, and a tinted windscreen with the Suzuki “S” to top it off.

Iphone Mount

So I fabricated my own Iphone mount. A little thinking went into this project as I didn’t want to modify the bike in any way unless I had to.
So when I installed the bar end mirrors (to be legal) I had a rubber grommet that was used to secure the bar end in place. This grommet was a bit over sized for the middle triple tree hole that I have. So I gorilla glued the fixed nut that fits on the grommet and hammered this grommet flush to the middle triple tree hole. (The nut was glued so it didn’t fall through when removing the mount)
Next I bought a $5 dollar iPhone belt bracket and took off the clip by grinding this down with a dremel tool to make it flush on the back side. Next I drilled a hole just 1mm thicker than the screw head of the bolt I was using so it would naturally counter sink and not have contact with the iphone.
On the back side of the mount (underside) I put a 1 cm thick washer with a smaller washer that only allowed the bolt to fit so it would hold the head of the screw. All of these parts were JBWelded to the bracket and sanded and will be painted similar to the dull black color of the case.
This raises the phone up and away front he tank and fits perfect. The only thing left is to test to see what the vibrations are on the highway. With a cross country trip to Seattle coming up I wanted a mount for GPS, music, and also I will be splicing a charge cord to a 12 volt cigarette adapter that I will mount in the front.
Let me know what you think.

Helmet “Night Proofed”

While I sat here one night looking over youtube at some videos I came across “Theharddude69″ selling his product of “Saved your life lights!” Curiously I went online to Ebay to see what they were going for and was astonished that he was getting a 80% profit on the item. Thus, I took it upon myself to make my own and actually better method of the “Saved your life lights!”

So I went to Ebay again and purchased the following:

  • Quantity of 10 prewired (including resistor) Blue LED’s = $7.84    (.78 a piece)

              10 x LED - 5mm PRE WIRED 12 VOLT BLUE

  • Lot of (20) 9 volt battery connector clips = $7.50 Shipped    (.38 a piece)

             PCK50, 9V SNAP ON BATTERY I TYPE CLIPS CONNECTOR - I

  • 9 Volt Battery = $1.00 from the dollar tree

  • Slide Switch purchased at Radio Shack = 2 pack for $2.39    ($1.20 a piece)

How did I do it for less than $5?

The location of the battery was located within the air duct inside the helmet. However, I allowed enough room for the air to still come through. The battery in this location will not pertrude and I will not feel it when riding.

Battery located inside air duct hole

This is the location of LED. I decided to tuck it in the air duct on the top of the helmet due to its really snug fit and its visibility to other traffic.

Helmet LED location

This is the final picture of the lights on. With a 9 Volt battery and powered on this can last more than a month or two! Very low energy consumption.

I just purchased and got my k6 Suzuki GSXR 60o back home in February.
